Dune: Part Two (March 15)
Dune: Part Two sees the return of the ensemble cast including Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin and Stellan Skarsgård to bring the sci-fi world of Frank Herbert back to the big screen. Paul Atreides, now united with Chani and the Fremen, sets out to avenge the murder of his house. But a terrifying future, of which he sees glimpses, lies ahead.
Snow White (March 22)
A beloved fairytale, and Disney’s first fully animated feature film, Snow White (1937) is getting a live remake. Snow White is played by Rachel Zegler and the Evil Queen is played by Gal Gadot.
Mickey 17 (March 29)
Following up his Academy Award win for Parasite, director Bong Joon-ho adapts Edward Ashton’s science fiction novel Mickey7. Robert Pattison is joined by Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, Mark Ruffalo and Steven Yeun in this much anticipated movie. Pattinson plays a disposable employee, whose memories remain intact and whose body regenerates every time he dies, on an expedition to colonise the distant ice-world Niflheim.
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (April 12)
The two greatest kaiju return in the follow up of the Monsterverse’s 2021 showdown. The synopsis suggests that Godzilla and Kong might be allies from the start rather than enemies. Legendary and Warner Bros describe that the two will face “a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world”.
Challengers (April 26)
Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers stars Zendaya as a former tennis prodigy turned coach, Tashi Duncan. The movie follows Tashi Duncan and two other tennis players played by Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist who compete in a tennis tournament to be the grand slam winner, reigniting old rivalries on and off the court.
Deadpool 3 (May 3)
In the third instalment of Deadpool directed by Shawn Levy, Wolverine joins the “merc with a mouth”. Whilst the plot is still being kept under wraps, it’s been suggested that the movie will see characters travelling through the multiverse. Whatever unfolds, we’re all looking forward to seeing the cast, Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman and Leslie Uggams for this action packed movie.
Inside Out 2 (June 14)
The much loved movie Inside Out is getting a sequel. Set inside a now-teenaged Riley, the Pixar sequel follows her as she goes off to university—a place where a whole range of new emotions will surely arise.
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, Part Two (June 28)
The eighth film of the Mission Impossible series will feature Tom Cruise, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, and Rebecca Ferguson returning to their original roles whilst newcomers Hayley Atwell and Esai Morales play the villain. When we last left Ethan Hunt, he was on the search for the entity.
A Quiet Place: Day One (June 28)
Michael Sarnoski brings us a spin-off prequel set within the same world as A Quiet Place. The movie explores the beginning of the alien invasion through new characters who must fend off the monsters and reclaim their society. Played by Lupita Nyong’o, Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff, Djimon Hounsou and Denis O’Hare, this one is definitely for all the horror lovers.
Mufasa: The Lion King (July 5)
Disney takes us back to the Pride Lands, with Academy Award-winning Barry Jenkins exploring the early life of Simba’s father Mufasa in a prequel to The Lion King.
Untitled Venom Sequel (July 12)
Directed by Kelly Marcel, in the third instalment of the Venom franchise, Tom Hardy returns as investigative journalist Eddie Brock possessed by an alien symbiote.
Twisters (July 19)
Minari director Lee Isaac Chung returns to the silver screen with a lane change. In stark contrast to the quiet power of the indie drama, Chung jumps to the summer blockbuster with a continuation of some sort of the 1996 disaster film Twister.
Borderlands (August 9)
With a star-studded cast including Oscar-winners Cate Blanchett and Jamie Lee Curtis alongside comedy-stars Kevin Hart and Jack Black, Borderlands follows an infamous and enigmatic outlaw (Blanchett) as she returns to her home planet in search of a missing person.
Alien: Romulus (August 16)
The seventh mainline instalment and the ninth overall instalment in the Alien franchise follows a group of young people who find themselves in the way of a terrifying horror. The movie features Isabela Merced, Cailee Spaeny, Archie Renaux, David Jonsson, Spike Feam and Aileen Wu.
Captain America: Brave New World (August 26)
A sequel to The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, we follow Sam Wilson played by Anthony Machie as the new Captain America. In 2022, director Julias Onah described the film as a “paranoid thriller.”
Kraven the Hunter (August 30)
Not much is known yet about the film centring around classic Spider-Man villain, Kraven the Hunter. But with J. C. Chandor’s involvement as the film’s director and Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s casting as the titular supervillain, we know this one is not to be missed.
Beetlejuice 2 (September 6)
From the mind of Tim Burton comes a film reuniting the director with Michael Keaton, who played Betelgeuse in Burton’s 1988 Beetlejuice. Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara are both set to reprise their roles as Lydia and Delia Deetz, and Jenne Ortega of Wednesday fame joins the cast in this fantasy-horror-comedy film.
Joker: Folie à Deux (October 4)
A follow up to the 2019 Joker, Joaquin Phoenix as Joker will be joined by Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn. The movie is reportedly a musical.
Wicked Part 1 (November 27)
Crazy Rich Asians director John M. Chu takes viewers to Oz with the first of a two-part adaptation of the hit Broadway musical Wicked. Cynthia Erivo will play Elphaba, while Ariana Grande will play Glinda. Indeed, this movie will be Popular!
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (December 20)
The third instalment of the Sonic the Hedgehog film franchise sees Ben Schwartz return as the titular blue hedgehog, Idris Elba as Knuckles and Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails. It is unclear who the villain Sonic is up against will be, though our money is on Shadow the Hedgehog, teased in the post-credits scene of Sonic 2.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse (Release date TBD)
In a sure-to-be striking conclusion to the Spider-Verse trilogy, Beyond the Spider-Verse will wrap up Across the Spider-Verse’s cliffhanger. Sprung into existence in 2018, Into the Spider-Verse is one of the best superhero movies of all time, and we cannot wait to see how it will all go down. Originally slated for a March release, the film’s opening has been postponed indefinitely amid the Hollywood labour strikes.
